A. Definition of Tourism
Some experts expressed their opinions about the definition of tourism and they have a different opinions.

Below is a definition of tourism according to experts :


1. Prof. Salah Wahab (1975)

Prof. Salah Wahab assume that Tourism is a new type of industry that is capable of accelerating economic growth and providing employment, increasing income, living standards and stimulating other productive sectors. Furthermore, as a complex sector, tourism also realizes classic industries such as handicraft and souvenir industries, lodging and transportation.

2. Mathieson and Wall (1982)

Defining tourism as a series of activities in the form of temporary movement of people to a destination outside of their usual place of residence or workplace, activities carried out during their stay at the destination, and the facilities provided to meet their needs both on and off destination location.


3. Burkart and Medlik (1987)

Tourism as a transformation of people temporarily and in the short term period goals outside the place where they live and work, and their activities while living in those destinations.

4. Hunziker and Krapf

Defined tourism as a whole network and the symptoms associated with the stay of a foreigner in a place where the person does not do an important job (Major Activity) that gives permanent or temporary benefits.

In general, tourism is a journey carried out by a person within a certain period of time from one place to another by carrying out previous planning, the purpose for recreation or for an interest so this desire can be fulfilled. Or tourism can also be interpreted as a journey from one place to another for recreation and then back to its original place.
